Gay Wedding Locations In British Columbia

On July 23rd, 2001, the Supreme Court of British Columbia heard arguments from gay couples that not being allowed to marry was discriminatory. Although the court did agree that the law discriminated against gays, they ruled that it was acceptable, because it was needed to promote procreation.

The decision was appealed to the British Columbia Court of Appeals. The higher court disagreed with with the lower court and overturned its ruling, giving the federal government until July 12, 2004 to change the definition of marriage to include same-sex couples.
